Vox Naturae

Vox Naturae was commissioned for the Wanderings in Horbury art trail and the brief surrounding this exhibition was very interesting. The work produced had to reference, or be relevant to, the 18th century naturalist and explorer Charles Waterton; who lived and worked in the area.

The title of this sculpture means "Natures Voice" in Latin and I wanted the piece to pay homage to Waterton's discoveries. By bestowing the artwork a Latin name and constructing it in such a way that it feels at once both animal and plant; I aimed to offer the audience the opportunity to explore some thing brand new. Just as the intrepid explorer might have done himself, all those years ago.
